Chess Team Looks for Late Winter Action

The L-P Chess Team continues to meet every Tues. afternoon after school in the old cafeteria. Finding scholastic competition at this time of the year is very difficult as most h.s. teams are affiliated with a conference and are now preparing for the IHSA tournament in Peoria. L-P, on the other hand, does not compete in the IHSA in chess except the occasional Sat. tournament hosted by one of the Chicago area schools.

At any rate, it looks like we probably will not be playing St. Bede this year. They simply don't seem to have the enthusiasm they had last year. Ottawa and Peoria Woodruff still remain a possibility. Joiliet Jr. College is once again sponsoring a simultaneous exhibition with Sr. Master Albert Chow of Chicago. Mr. Chow until recently wrote the weekly chess column for the Chicago Sun Times. The "simul" would most likely be on a week night towards the end of March....

Wilson, Peterson & Pypno lost to spring sports participation. Senior Captain Adam Wilson has made the L-P Varsity Tennis Team. Junior Chris Peterson will be on the L-P Varsity Baseball Team. And Frosh Andy Pypno will be out for Golf. Good luck, men!

2005 Annual Chess Team Banquet - The L-P Chess Team is in the process of planning its annual banquet. The banquet will be held at the Maples Supper Club this year, however no specific date has been set for this event. Cost for the banquet will be approx. $10.
